SIMPLEX FM
radiotelephone “channels” from the ARRL band plan. The phonetic designators and the designated
uses were added some years ago in the Sacramento Valley Section and have been
adopted by others.
147.42 MHz has been
promoted as a national ARES/Red Cross frequency. (It was chosen for its ease to
remember since 47.42 MHz is the National American Red Cross low-band frequency.)
The object is to have a common VHF simplex frequency for all ARC personnel.
Example: An ARC DSHR worker, who is also a licensed amateur, arrives in a
disaster area. He/she can go to 147.42 MHz
and (within range), contact an ARES/ARC unit.
147.57 MHz has been
designated and in use for SAR in some areas. Just as 155.16 MHz is the NASAR
frequency, 147.57 MHz may be worth promoting as a national SAR amateur radio
simplex frequency.
